This originally started as practice for inking and drawing women. It suddenly evolved into a series of illustrations of various types of women: from femme fatales, bad girls to witches, etc. I have a few more to9 finish up but I think I am calling the series “Ladies of the Night”.
I really do enjoy black.
I think I may have a problem.
You are really good at the graphic style, it is so cool. I like the idea of the series too.
ReplyDeleteDo you work with markers or regular ink?
I like your problem. Black and white ladies forever!
ReplyDeleteThey remind me a bit of Sin City. I like sharp black and white with no mid tones.
@Kiri
ReplyDeleteI love that style extreme contrasts seem to be what I love in art. When I am inking I use Yasutomo Sumi ink and a water color brush (Cotman Series 222 Designer size #2) with a nib Gillot #303/ Hunt 102 nibs for lines. I have not gotten a W&N Sable brush yet because honestly I prefer how my water color brushes work. With that much black, my markers tend to die quickly
@Aledin
Thanks man, I appreciate it. Sin City was one of the first books I loved. I am love painting but I have always had a "thing" for black and white. Its one of those visuals that requires you to be honest in your work while at the same time inventing new ways to lie to the eye.
You know what they say about black....black is sexy....and so is your work
ReplyDeleteThanks Kat, that just made me definitely want to finish the rest of the set even quicker.
